Customized Aluminum Cast Auto Oil Pan / Sump

The oil pan, commonly referred to as an oil sump outside the United States, is a standard component of four-stroke internal combustion engines in cars and similar vehicles. Its primary purpose is to seal the bottom of the crankcase and act as the lowest point, collecting oil as it circulates before and after lubricating the engine. When the oil pan is removed, components such as the crankshaft, the oil pickup device, and the lower section of the dipstick are usually exposed. In some cases, oil pans are equipped with one or more magnets designed to capture small metal fragments, preventing them from clogging the oil filter or damaging the engine.

In high-performance applications, such as race cars, a dry sump system may replace the conventional wet sump design. This system stores oil in an external reservoir that is pumped into and out of the engine, rather than housing it within the crankcase. Dry sump systems typically utilize a much smaller oil pan since the oil is returned to the separate tank after lubrication.
