Our Expertise of Grey Iron Casting Parts

We specialize in producing grey iron castings (HT150–HT300 / GG15–GG30) for industrial applications that require excellent vibration damping, dimensional stability, and cost-efficient manufacturing. Our process supports both thin-wall and complex-cavity designs while maintaining stable mechanical and metallurgical properties across production batches.

Leveraging resin sand casting, green sand casting, and solidification simulation, we engineer gating and riser systems to minimize porosity, shrinkage defects, and graphite distribution imbalance. Typical applications include machine bases, housings, pump bodies, brackets, compressor components, transmission structures, and agricultural machinery parts where compressive strength and damping performance are crucial.

We support part sizes ranging from 0.1 to 24 inches and weights from 1 ounce to 50 pounds, ensuring consistent graphite morphology, hardness uniformity, and dimensional repeatability required for precision assembly and stable mechanical performance.

Our Manufacturing Approach

To achieve stable and verifiable grey iron casting quality, our workflow focuses on graphite morphology control, base-metal matrix stability, process-parameter traceability, and digital casting simulation, rather than relying on traditional experience-only operations.

Charge Material Control & Melt Treatment

We conduct spectral analysis for charge material and adjust C, Si, Mn, S, and P levels to achieve the required graphite grade and target base-metal microstructure (ferrite/pearlite ratio). Inoculation, nodulizing prevention, and slag removal disciplines are applied to avoid undercooling, carbide formation, and structure brittleness.

Mold System & Feeding Engineering

Casting layout is designed using flow & solidification simulation, optimizing gating, risers, chills, and venting to reduce shrinkage, porosity, and edge hardness deviation.

Dimensional stability is achieved by controlling cooling rate gradients to prevent internal stress and distortion.

Microstructure & Mechanical Property Control

We verify and tune graphite morphology (flake size & distribution per ISO 945) and matrix proportions to reach the required compressive strength, wear resistance, and damping performance. Heat treatment is optional and used only for stress relief when assembly tolerance or vibration sensitivity is critical — not for alloy hardening.

Precision Machining & Quality Assurance

Machining is completed using CNC finishing, supported by CMM dimensional verification. The surface finish typically reaches a Ra of 3.2–6.3 μm, depending on the casting and machining stages. Inspection options include UT, MT, hardness testing, metallography, and run-out verification, as specified in the drawing requirements.

What are the Advantages of Grey Iron Casting Parts ?

  • Superior Vibration Damping & Noise Reduction Grey iron’s graphite flake structure delivers excellent damping and acoustic absorption, making it ideal for machine bases, compressor housings, pump bodies, and mounting structures.
  • High Dimension & Shape Stability After Casting Low internal stress and uniform cooling enable stable tolerances and reduced distortion, especially for large, rigid, or complex geometry parts.
  • Cost-Effective for Medium to Large-Volume Production Compared with steel or ductile-iron solutions, grey iron offers lower melting cost, easier moldability, and reduced machining time, resulting in high performance per dollar.
  • Excellent Machinability with Long Tool Life The graphite acts as a natural lubricant during machining, reducing tool wear, cutting heat, and finishing cost, ideal for precision functional surfaces.

If your design requires evaluation, we can provide graphite grade recommendations, base microstructure control guidance, and casting simulation to reduce risks before tooling launch.
